My first real attempt at a bowie

Postby JayJay » Sat Mar 06, 2010 12:20 pm

Now no laughing. This is my first proper bowie. I wanted to try to make a traditional style knife but wanted a nice slim shape. So here it is. Made it from 4mm thick carbon tool steel and then gave it a high polish finish. Made the handle from a piece of mahogany I had laying around. The overall length is 13.5 inches. The blade is 8.5 inches. Blade depth slightly under 1.5 inches. Hand cut and shaped oval guard. Anyway let me know what you think.

cheers

Jay

Looks a good first try to me. I like that slim coffin style handle. What have you got in mind for a sheath Jay?
You wanna play rough? Okay. Say hello to my little friend!

Wow thats a really nice knife. Would also love to see what you're going to do with the sheath.

IT turned out OK. Not sure what to do for the sheath. All suggestions welcome? :?

I'd keep it pretty plain myself. Maybe make it look a bit vintage. Just my cents worth.
One of the things you learn from years of dealing with drug people, is that you can turn your back on a person, but never turn your back on a drug. Especially when it's waving a razor-sharp hunting knife in your eye.
