I finally made up my mind!

Postby pitta-pitta » Fri Mar 05, 2010 1:19 pm

You might all remember I was looking to buy a nice knife before Chrimbo. In the end I did. Well kinda!

I bought two. The wife wasn't happy.

I bought an Enzo Badger with a convex grind. It's extremely sharp and the one I bought was really nice looking with buffalo horn, vulcanized fiber and G10 with mosaic pins for the handle - like the one shown. It's a great knife and really gets the job done whilst being a bit different from all the Woodlore clones about. I nearly bought a Busse but they looked a bit to combatty for my liking.

The other knife I had made by a young blacksmith from Sheffield called William Rogers. Hope he doesn't mind me mentioning his name here. He made me a very flashy folding bowie knife. I showed him some pictures and he made it from scratch for me. Its about 12 inches long when opened, full bowie sized, is razor sharp and really caused a stir last time I went shooting with some mates. It's too good to use really. It's a bloody work of art.

Not sure it's quite what I set out to get but I've got to say the end result is really something else. It's the biggest folder I've ever seen and is a really sharp nice knife. It makes me feel a bit like a Mississippi pimp but I love it!

Thanks for all your help on this. It was a long learning curve. I ended up with two knifes that I'll cherish forever.

My next knife is going to be one of Bernie Garland's. After the wife recovers from these two of course.

No I don't think he has a website. I'll PM you his contact details. A mate of mine got him to make a nice bowie knife so I went to see him. His workshop is awesome. His family have been in knives for a long time but went out of business years ago. He's only just qualified. I think hes just in his early twenties. His work is on another planet. It cost me £235. I don't know if that is a lot. It is 12 inches long. He made my mate a folding bowie where the handel spins round so a smaller fighter type knife becomes a big bowie. This guy is something special. I don't think his knives will stay at the prices he's charging now. A guy I shoot with says it looks more like £800 worth and he knows about knives.

PM me mate. I think I need to talk to this fella. That is a bargain I think you got there. That's no ordinary knife I can tell from the pictures. I collect bowies. Once people catch on to someone like him his prices will rocket. Reckon you did alright for yerself there. The Enzo looks good too. Nice job on both fronts.

You got some real cracking knives there. PM inbound. ;)
One of the things you learn from years of dealing with drug people, is that you can turn your back on a person, but never turn your back on a drug. Especially when it's waving a razor-sharp hunting knife in your eye.
