What would you have at Camp?

Postby Scarab » Sat Mar 06, 2010 11:12 pm

Hey all,

A friend of mine has some property which includes a large amount of woodland. He's very kindly said that me and another of our friends can set up a semi-permanent camp in there for camping and general bushcraft related arseing around.

We're going to be using Hammocks for sleeping, or the Polski tents. But what do you guys think its worth having set up there permanently?

Obviously we're going for a Wood/Log store for fires and have a few other ideas but would love some input and fresh ideas!

A stove. Some climbing ropes between trees. Build a few wind breaks using intertwinned branches and wood from the floor of the wood. :)

Yeah a semi permanant stove would be top of my list. Have a lot of ready cut pegs there for my tarp or basha too. :D
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold.

Best suggestion gets a free combat knife. 15 inches of power with buffalo handle. :D :D :D

I'd build a tree house and put ropes all around in canopy of trees. There's a place called Monkey Business I think who have loads of great ideas. :D

The most useful thing would be an earth toilet, dig a hole quite far from the camp and put a hurdle around it.
Is that jacket ventile ,or is it waterproof?

A permanent overhead rope to hang a parachute from.Just the horizontal rope, when you arrive at camp it's easier to throw another rope over to use to haul up the chute. As it's just a horizontal rope high above the ground it won't get destroyed by unwanted visitors.

Build some shelters and seats. Maybe a few log bridges over ditches. Maybe a shooting platform up a tree?
One of the things you learn from years of dealing with drug people, is that you can turn your back on a person, but never turn your back on a drug. Especially when it's waving a razor-sharp hunting knife in your eye.

A covered woodpile is also useful.
